Course Title - Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid - 12hr (PFA)

Description - Designed for staff working with young people in the Early Years Foundation Stage setting who have an increased level of responsibility with regard to the care and welfare of the students, both infants and children. The qualification introduces the techniques, skills and decisions that will be needed by the childcare practitioner in the British Isles. The skills and knowledge will be taught in a realistic childcare context. The award has been designed to fulfil the need for effective paediatric first aid training set out in The Early Years Foundation Stage Guidance. It may also have been identified as necessary by a workplace risk assessment or First Aid Needs Assessment.
Specific Content - Planning for and dealing with first aid emergencies involving babies and children including CPR and AED use; shock; anaphylactic shock; electric shock; bleeding; burns and scalds; choking; suspected fractures; head, neck and back injuries; poisoning; foreign bodies in eyes, ears and noses; eye injuries; bites and stings; effects of extreme heat and cold; febrile convulsions; chronic medical conditions, including epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, meningitis and other serious sudden illness.
RQF Regulation & Accreditation - This qualification is regulated in the UK by ITC First. ITC are an Awarding organisation regulated by OfQual and SQA Accreditation. The qualification sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF).
